Practicalities

 

All participants will overnight in a ‘rolling’ safari camp.

Road surface. The majority of the route will be on tarmac (except for biodiesel SUV’s). The remaining roads are what is called ‘graded’ which is compacted gravel. A former technical director of The Solar Car Federation has inspected the surfaces and has declared them suitable for the solar cars. As the solar cars are regarded as the most ‘fragile’ of the entrants, with low ground clearance and very narrow wheels, all other entrants should have no trouble coping with the terrain.

The Rally will be accompanied by an experienced medical team, and
airborne medical evacuation will be available if needed.

The rally will be starting in a malarial area, and all teams as well as media and others accompanying the rally will be provided with appropriate medical information and advice.

All participants will need to get their vehicles, and themselves, to
Livingstone, Zambia, and to depart for home from Cape Town. The

For transport of vehicles and fuel, the organisers have discussed the issue with Transworld Cargo of Windhoek, Namibia. They have extensive experience of shipping vehicles into and out of Southern Africa, along with special fuels, and all participants are encouraged to contact them for full information.
